Requiem For A Piece Of Meat
Are not animals, human beings and objects really nothing more than envelopes - or in the first two cases sacks of skin? With «Requiem For A Piece Of Meat» Daniel Hellman blows up the body’s accepted role. Whether dancing, sliding or growling around the performers and musicians transform the stage into a place of encounter and conflict. The moving bodies are accompanied by the voices of the musical ensemble novantik project basel and compositions by Lukas Huber. Between poetry and raw objectivity, sacred music and cries from the slaughterhouse, this funeral mass amidst the living reveals the surprising complexity of our relationship with the flesh – simultaneously fascinating and repugnant, both living matter and savoury meat. After «Traumboy», a documentary solo about sex work, Daniel Hellmann continues his multidisciplinary research into art as it relates to the body - contemporary, sensitive and social - and its paradoxes.
